A bit of history:

On the road to South Africa 2010 tiny St. Kitts and Nevis will be hoping for a repeat of their performance ahead of Germany 2006 when they stunned the region to reach the second qualifying group stage alongside CONCACAF's top dogs.

Although they lost all six semi-final group matches scoring only three goals in a ferocious Group 3, the islanders could be well proud of even reaching that far. After all, they only established their FA in 1996.

In order to reach that rarefied air, they beat the US Virgin Islands 11-0 over two legs. After that they earned an impressive victory over an experienced Barbados outfit by an aggregate of 5-2. A tight 1-2 loss to Trinidad & Tobago at home hinted at maybe more success. But another slim loss, 0-1 to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, looked to have taken the thunder out of brave St. Kitts' campaign. Four more defeats followed - 1-5 to T&T, 0-3 to St. Vincent and 0-5 and 0-8 to Mexico.

Inevitably St. Kitts and Nevis sunk against their bigger rivals, but enough experience gained at these levels could eventually pay off for the underdogs when the South African finals of 2010 come calling in the Caribbean.
