A bit of history:
Hércules sporadically appeared in the top flight every decade up until the end of last century, with the 1970s being the most successful period. They last appeared in the first level in 1996/97 and, though relegated, managed two remarkable comeback wins over FC Barcelona, which ultimately handed over the league title to Real Madrid.
In 2004-05 they finished second in the Segunda División B, being subsequently promoted to the second level.
