A bit of history:

FK Rubin Kazan is a Russian football club, based in the city of Kazan (Tatarstan republic).

Rubin never played in the Soviet Top League. They advanced to the Russian Premier League in 2003, and came third in the league in their debut year, qualifying for the UEFA Cup. Their 2004 campaign was less successful, they came 10th. In 2005 they were competing for UEFA Cup zone again, finished 4th.

Rubin had a successful start in the 2007-08 season, having won all 6 of the matches played so far , including the defending champions Zenit Saint Petersburg in Saint Petersburg.

The team was also previously called "Iskra" (1958-1964), "Rubin-TAN" (1992-1993).
