A bit of history:
The club was founded as the military club WKS Zawisza in may 1946. The name was changed to Legia Bydgoszcz in 1950 and next to OWKS Bydgoszcz. This club used the ‘Green-white-red’ colours. From 1954 to 1957 the club was playing as CWKS Bydgoszcz but finally was renamed to WKS Zawisza
Bydgoszcz. The historic ‘Blue and black’ colours was restored in 1977.
Zawisza played in Polish top division in 12 seasons (the greatest result - 4rd place in 1989-90), but finally was degraded in 1994. The financial problems caused degradation to 4rd league in 1997. There were some exertions to save the football in Zawisza - the unsuccessful fusion with KP Konin in 1998 and another fusion with Chemik Bydgoszcz in 2001 which finally caused degradation to 5th division.
The supporters of Zawisza tried to start from the beginig once again and founded SP Zawisza (Stowarzyszenie Piłkarskie Zawisza) in April 2003. Though WKS Zawisza still existed there as the main club.
The football team of WKS Zawisza was finally merged to SP Zawisza in March 11th, 2005.
