A bit of history:

SKS Polonia Gdańsk was founded in September 27, 1945 as NIT near the shipyard. The club was playing as ZKS Polonia Gdańsk until March 26th, 1970 when other club from Gdańsk – RKS Stocznia Północna was merged to Polonia. The new one was named RKS Stoczniowiec Gdańsk and played till 1992, when the club came back to name Polonia (football section only). RKS Stoczniowiec became the hockey club (with skating, bridge and volleyball sections).

Financial troubles obliged Polonia’s authorities to do another fussion – with KS Lechia Gdańsk. Between 1998 and 2001 the club existed as KS Lechia-Polonia Gdańsk and this fusion caused another trouble so the clubs was divided. Polonia came back to historical name Stoczniowy Klub Sportowy Polonia and there’s the current one.
