A bit of history:
Ruch Chorzów is one of the most meritorious Polish clubs, based in Chorzów (Upper Silesia). The historical name (Ruch) refers 'the nationally-liberation comittee of Silesia'. This Club was founded in 1920 as KS Ruch Wielkie Hajduki. In 1923 Bismarckhütter Ballspiel Club was merged to Ruch and the club changed their name to KS Ruch BBC Wielkie Hajduki.
Hajduki Wielkie was merged to Chorzów in 1939 and then the club changed name to KS Ruch Chorzów. Next, in March 1949 changed name to KS Chemik Chorzów. Between April 1949 and 1959 the team was playing as ZS Unia Chorzów (fusion of Chemik, Leœnik and Drzewiarz). In the 50's the team came back to name 'KS Ruch Chorzów' and since 18th July 2002 - KS Ruch w Chorzowie.
The football section was transformed to the Joint Stock Company and that's why the current name of this team is Ruch Chorzów SSA.
The quarter-final of European Champion Clubs' (in 1975) and the quarter-final of UEFA Cup (in 1974) were the best results in international competitions. Ruch was the finalist of Intertoto Cup in 1998.
