A bit of history:
The history of GKS Bełchatów started in 1977, when the quarry of lignite was built in Bełchatów. The club was founded in November 26, 1977 when the football section of MZKS Skra was transferred to the new team named GKS Węgiel Brunatny Bełchatów. The club changed name to GKS Bełchatów in 1983 and there is the current one (but sponsor’s name was added in 2007 and footballers play as PGE GKS Bełchatów).
2nd place in Orange Ekstraklasa 2006/07 is the greatest success in Bełchatów’s history. The club was the finalist of Polish Cup (Puchar Polski) two times: in 1996 and in 1999 but has never won this trophy.
