A bit of history:
On paper, the Nicaraguans looked like favourites to get past the Netherlands Antilles in the first round series of South Africa 2010 qualifying in CONCACAF. However, the Dutch-influenced side combed the Lowlands for talent and put out a firm fist of a team, one which Nicaragua just could not stand with.
The Central Americans lost the first leg on home soil 1-0 and must have known it was not going to go their way in the second. In Willemstad in late March of 2008, the Antilleans finished the job with a 2-0 win in a comprehensive 3-0 aggregate victory.
The Nicaraguans, always considered lesser light in football-mad Central America, will now have to review their approach and tactics ahead of qualifying for Brazil 2014.
