A bit of history:
Waikato FC was formed in 2004 to compete in the revamped New Zealand Football Championship.
With only eight teams competing in New Zealand's elite football competition, it was vital that the Waikato region be a part of the new NZFC setup.
The club's colours reflect the traditional Waikato provincial sporting colours of red, gold and black (made famous in New Zealand by Waikato's rugby and netball teams).
The football club's crest features a stylised panel football in the Waikato colours surrounded by a ring border showing the club name and its date of formation.
While Waikato FC aims to win the New Zealand Football Championship at some point in the future (the club finished 3rd in the league's inaugural season) as important to the club is to harbour positive links with the local communities and the successful development of football within the Waikato region.
