A bit of history:

Described by some as the sleeping giants of the Caribbean, Grenada put up a good fight before eventually tumbling out at the second hurdle of CONCACAF qualifying for South Africa 2010.

They beat the US Virgin Islands 10-0 on aggregate with little trouble in the first round, before heading into a tricky home/away contest with Central American giants Costa Rica as decided underdogs.

The first leg in St. George's produced a sensation in the shape of a shock 2-2 draw. Unfortunately for the plucky islanders, who had USA-based Shalrie Joseph and Blackburn's Jason Roberts in the team, they could not reproduce the form in the return leg in San Jose, losing 3-0 and exiting the competition.

The Spice Boyz, as the colourful Grenadians are known, will now have to wait until the qualifiers for Brazil 2014 for their next opportunity to shake their reputation as CONCACAF nearly-men.
