About the logo:
Following a merger between Herning Fremad and Ikast FS, FC Midtjylland was formed in 1999.
The new club's crest / logo (along with its name) was unveiled at a press conferenceon 1 July 1999, the official date given to the club's formation.
The crest symbolises the head of a wolf. Although there are no wild wolves left in Denmark today, folklore states that (some two hundred years ago) they used to live on the moors where the cities of Herning and Ikast have since been built.
FC Midtjylland is now known by the nickname "Ulvene" (The Wolves) and has a fan club called "Black Wolves".
The club crest also displays the club name and its year of formation.
Interestingly the amateur and youth sides of Herning Fremad and Ikast FS chose to maintain their separate identities (and hence continue to play each other) at the time of the merger between the two clubs at professional level. This follows a trend that has been seen a number of times, particularly in Denmark, with the aim of the merger being purely to successfully introduce or maintain a professional football club in a certain area or region.
