A bit of history:

TJ Slovan Liberec was created on 12 July 1958, when Jiskra Liberec and Slavoj Liberec merged. Jiskra came out from 1910 created SK the Sparta Horní Růžodol. Slavoj however had developed in 1945 as SK Čechie Liberec. Before World War II none of the teams from Liberec achieved much success. Both Slavoj Liberec (1953) and Jiskra (1955) only played one season in the top league. After their formation, Slovan spent many years in the lower leagues, only reaching the Czechoslovak second division in 1977. Up to the dissolution of the ČSFR the club played mainly in the second and third divisions. However, Slovan ascended to the 1.League with the formation of the Czech league in 1993, and has maintained this position ever since. In the 1990s Slovan Liberec achieved a series of mid-table finishes. In 2002 Slovan Liberec became the first champions of the Czech Republic from outside Prague. Subsequently the team finished fourth in 2002/2003. In the season 2004/05 as a consequence of a league wide corruption scandal, Slovan were penalised six points. Slovan still achieved fifth place with 46 points.
