A bit of history:
In January 27th 1930 the São Paulo Futebol Clube is founded, by ex-players and partners of the Club Athlético Paulistano (wich abandoned football) and Associação Atlética das Palmeiras (an extinct club). In hommage to these associations, the club's colours were the red (from CA Paulistano), black (from AA Palmeiras) and white (from both). It's logo diamond-shaped with the three colours and the club's initials.
However, with huge financial issues, the São Paulo FC was sold and absorbed by the Clube de Regatas Tietê after only five years of existence. The club's partners then refounded the club, initially with the name Clube Atlético São Paulo, in June 4th 1935, with the same colours, uniforms and logo. On December 16th of the same year the club was renamed after it's original denomination: São Paulo Futebol Clube. This foundation date became official on the club's statutes.
Some argue that the original and the actual São Paulo Futebol Clube should be considered different club's, because legally they are different institutions. In some fonts, the first São Paulo FC is often called São Paulo da Floresta (the club's ground's name) to make this difference. However, to the club's cheers and chairmans the actual clubs is a refoundation, with the same symbols, colours and (then) cheers, players and partners, and so they must be considered the same club.
In the 90's the club's logo was redesigned. The main changes are on the initial's font and the abdsence of points. From 1994-2002 the club used two golden stars on it's badge, wich were already in use on the flag, for the world records of the club's athlete Adhemar Ferreira da Silva on the Olympic Games 1952 and the Panamerican Games 1955. In 2002 the club added two red stars for the Intercontinental Cups 1992 and 1993, during the celebration of ten years after the first one. And in 2005, after conquering the FIFA World Club Championship, the club added one more star.
