A bit of history:
The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo was a rowing club founded in November 15th 1895 in the neighbourhood of Flamengo, city of Rio de Janeiro. It's first colours were blue and gold, but on the same year they adopted the red and black. It's first logo was created in 1895: red and black badge with white rows and anchor.
In 1911 Flamengo formed a football squad, and a new logo was designed: red-and-black striped with white monogram. The anchor logo, official in the club's statutes, became to be used only in water sports, with the new logo used in all other modalities. In 1981 the football logo was redesigned.
In the shirt, both football and regatta squad used the white monogram from 1895-1994. The shirt monogram was redesigned for the football squad in 1944, and the regatta squad begun using the anchor and rows in the shirt, too. In 1981 the monogram followed the new logo's design, and gained three white stars for the the three "tricampeonatos" (1942-44, 1953-55 and 1978-79 special).
In 2000 the team used the complete logo with the three white stars on the top. In 2001, with another "tricampeonato (1999-2001) the club added a fourth white star and a golden one, for 1981's Intercontinental Cup. In 2004 the monogram returned, with one only golden star.
