A bit of history:

The Barbados Football Association was founded in 1910 and celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2000. The BFA was originally named the Barbados Amateur Football Association. The name was changed in 1925. The Barbados Football Association became affiliated to FIFA in 1968. It is also an affiliate of the Caribbean Football Union and CONCACAF.

The Barbados Football Association is mainly staffed by volunteers which is a feature of Football Associations in the Caribbean Region. The Football Association enjoys the support of its regional and international bodies and salutes the initiative of FIFA under the Financial Assistance Programme and the Goal Projects, programmes from which Barbados' Football has benefited. The Current Leadership of the Football Association is headed by Mr. Ronald Jones, MP. The Association has a twenty one member management team, which has varied responsibilities for the policy formulation and the management of the game in Barbados.

Most of Barbados' International soccer games are played at the National Stadium at Waterford, St. Michael. Several other facilities are used to play junior games.

Barbados reached the semi-final round of the CONCACAF qualifiers for the FIFA world Cup Finals for the first time in 2000. This was arguably Barbados' best performance in an international qualifying tournament. The Historic victory against Costa Rica on July 16th, 2001, at the National Stadium in Barbados was a singular moment in our history. Barbados has performed reasonably well against international competition in Barbados.

The BFA sanctions and organizes football activity in Barbados. The sport is one of the largest supported sports in the island, currently catering to some 14000 players from the junior levels right through to the masters level. There are approximately 80 clubs and leagues affiliated to the Barbados Football Association. Barbados Domestic season takes place between January and July.
