A bit of history:
Wollongong F.C. (previously known as The Wollongong Wolves) is an Australian association football (soccer) club based in the Illawarra region in New South Wales, Australia. A member of the former National Soccer League (NSL) until that league ended in 2004, they now play in the New South Wales Premier League.
The club has a proud history of developing players, with such notable names as Scott Chipperfield, Robbie Middleby, Alvin Ceccoli, Sasho Petrovski and a host of others developing at the Wolves; they have a European club link with English Premier League club Manchester United.
The Wolves first Grand Final win came in the 1999/2000 season, when the Wolves beat Perth Glory in a penalty shootout. Perth were up 3-0 at halftime, but goals from Scott Chiperfield, captain Matt Horsley and a last minute equaliser from Paul Reid put the game into extra time-Golden Goal. after no goals in extra time it went to penalties. Wollongong goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi was the hero saving vital penalties. The Wollongong Wolves won 7-6 on penalties
The Wolves won their second NSL title in 2001. They beat South Melbourne 2-1 Stuart Young and Saso Petrovski scored the goals.
On 6 December 2007, Wollongong Wolves CEO, Jock Morlando, announced that the Wollongong Wolves will now be known as Wollongong F.C. The CEO said that the club will be undergoing a 'transformation' which includes several things club related, including Re-Branding and a 'New Beginning'.
