A bit of history:
Football Queensland (formerly "Queensland Soccer") is the governing body of association football (soccer) in the Australian state of Queensland. The body changed its name to be more in line with the new Football Federation Australia in 2005. It traces its history back to the establishment of the Anglo-Queensland Football Association in 1884.
Football Queensland organises the only current statewide competition - the State Cup which has been held since 2004 as an end of season tournament for teams representing the various regional federations. There is talk of the State League being resurrected for the 2008 season. Currently there are ten regional zones - Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Far North, North, Central, Whitsunday, Wide Bay, South West and North West. Each organises its own regional competitions the strongest district being Brisbane (Brisbane Premier League) whose teams tend to be regarded as the state champions.
The state is divided up into 10 administrative areas: Brisbane, Central Queensland, Far North Queensland, Gold Coast, North Queensland, North West Queensland, Sunshine Coast, South West Queensland, Whitsunday and Wide Bay.
