About the logo:

The Club Atlético River Plate was founded on May 25th 1901 in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, in La Boca neighbourhood, but soon moving to Palermo. It was named after La Plata River, and it's first shirt was all white. The famous red band was only adopted after a carnival prank of some of the club's boys, who stole a red ribbon from a cabman to use over the shirt. The idea pleased the club's chairman and the band is used until nowadays.

River's first logo was a simple red and white circle with the club's initials. These logo evolved to a white badge with the red band, just like the shirt, drawed with black lines. Nowadays the club uses a more stylized version of this badge.
